THE COLOR FRED Returns with Their First New Song in Over a Decade Plus Shows in Philly and Brooklyn

Philadelphia’s guitar hero Fred Mascherino has reignited his solo project THE COLOR FRED with a newly invigorated lineup. Mascherino has also resurfaced with a brand new song titled “Don’t Give Up On Me” and lyric video as well. To celebrate its first new material in over a decade, The Color Fred will be playing shows in Philadelphia (June 14 at Kung Fu Necktie) and Brooklyn (June 15 at Knitting Factory). Advance tickets are now on sale and can be purchased here.

“We got married young, so my wife and I are at 20 years right now,” explains Mascherino. “We pretty much had back-to-back mid-life crises in recent months, but it makes you want to better yourself. That’s all wrapped up in this song’s lyrics. I built my studio last year and this is the first song coming out of it. Musically, I’m really happy that it went to some new places but still sounds like me. The title ‘Don’t Give Up On Me’ also seems amusingly appropriate for sending a new song out there after years of silence.”

The Color Fred is an indie rock band headed by former Taking Back Sunday guitarist/vocalist Fred MascherinoBend to Break, TCF’s debut full-length album, was released on October 30, 2007 via Equal Vision Records. The album peaked at #8 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. TCF toured the US, Canada and the UK, providing support for such bands as Dashboard Confessional, Angels and Airwaves and Four Year Strong. They released an acoustic EP for Record Store Day in 2009.

When Mascherino entered the studio to record LP two, he wound up collaborating with his friends Josh Eppard (Coheed and Cambria) and Andy Jackson (Hot Rod Circuit) in what eventually became Terrible Things. TT released their highly-anticipated self-titled debut album on Universal Motown. Mascherino then went on tour playing bass for The Lemonheads and guitar for Say Anything.  During that time, Mascherino was producing and writing for bands, eventually building his own studio, Diver Down. In late 2018, he decided to close the studio to the public and start recording his own music again. Coming full-circle, the new material will be released as The Color Fred. Fans can expect more new music and shows in 2019.

Video: Rise, My King – Thunder From The Mountain

The debut music video for Rise, My King has officially been released to the masses!

I was fortunate enough to be apart of the production of the video as a behind the scenes videographer as well as being a PA and grip. The production took 4 days to shoot at 3 different locations. The hours were long and the weather wasn’t exactly on our side during one of the location shoots. But the results were amazing due to each and every crew member from hair and makeup, to location scouting, to set building, to lighting, to props, to all the other PA’s on hand.

On the upcoming shows, Lyman has shared: “I truly am happy to get the chance to travel around the country one more time to thank you for your support, and bring you another best day ever.”

I have spent half of my adult life traveling alongside Kevin on the tour, connecting with bands and fans around the world, Steve Van Doren recalls. “Bringing music and action sports to youth for over two decades has been a personal honor and I’m excited to hit the road on the last cross-country tour.

The line up for the 2018 Vans Warped Tour, presented by Journeys, will be announced this Thursday, March 1st. General admission tickets will be available on Thursday, March 8th.

The Vans Warped Tour is the largest traveling music festival in the United States and the longest-running touring music festival in North America. Originally conceived by founder Kevin Lyman in 1995 as an eclectic alternative rock festival, with a focus on punk rock, over the years the tour has grown to include a multitude of genres, including metal, hip-hop, reggae, pop and more. It remains one of the best tours to attend to discover emerging acts, to learn more about wonderful non-profits and companies who are working to make a positive impact on the world that surrounds them, and to meet like-minded friends.

Over the past two decades, Vans Warped Tour has built a legacy as themust-attendd summer festival for rock and music lovers alike. Since its start in 1995 it has provided a platform for established as well as up-and-coming artists, with past performers including blink182, No Doubt, Sublime, Beck, Katy Perry, NOFX, Limp Bizkit, Black Eyed Peas, Green Day, Eminem, Yellowcard, Bad Religion, and countless others.

In addition, the tour continues to host a wide array of amazing non-profits and educational workshops for attendees and 2018 will be launching The Preventum Initiative, focusing on youth and adolescent opioid prevention. Teens With a Purpose, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), Donate Life New England, Planned Parenthood, Keep A Breast, Testicular Cancer Foundation, To Write Love on Her Arms, and Project HEAL will all be involved this summer, just to name a few. Fans can see their favorite bands as well as become educated on these causes and how they can help.

I am very excited about the upcoming year. With it being the last tour, the non-profit presence will be as big as ever. Groups who have been out in the past will be coming out in more markets, and hopefully, we will attract new non-profits,” comments Sierra Lyman. “With more non-profits coming out there will be more options for our audience to hopefully get involved before, during, and after the tour. I am hoping that this last year encourages non-profits to partner with bands and for bands to partner with non-profits on their own events and tours once this summer is over.

If you recall, over a month ago, the band announced that they were calling it quits. When asked about the reason for the breakup, guitarist Chris Davis noted ‘several show cancelations, tour cancelations, losing a 2nd guitarist and Adam’s declining health conditions all back-to-back seemed like it was a sign to throw in the towel.’

After wrapping up this current run, they will be heading to Europe followed by a farewell U.S. Headline tour to bookend the band’s prestigious 8yr run.
