Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company’s 11th Anniversary Party and an Interview with Nuno of A Wilhelm Scream

The Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company celebrated their 11th anniversary on a perfect day with with food trucks, tattoos, VHS, guitar effects pedals and, of course, brews. Extra shoutout to The Plate Club and some of the best corn fritters I’ve ever had.’

The highlight, though, was the bands and the lineup was inspired.

From New Jersey, Town Liar made up of scene veterans Jason Shevchuk (None More Black, Kid Dynamite), Nick Remondelli (Bound, Autumn), Benny Horowitz (The Gaslight Anthem) and Heath Sarceno (Midtown, Senses Fail).  As far as I can tell, they’re brand new and this was one of their first shows ever.  They had numerous kids in attendance front and center, so it was nice to see the next generation get in on the action.  This band is certainly one to keep an ear out for!

The Homeless Gospel Choir brought the one-man acoustic jams and protests against…well…pretty much everything!

A Wilhelm Scream was next and they brought the energy.  The setlist is below and as you can see, it was a good mix of old and new.  New guitarist Ben Murray (Heartsounds, Light this City, Creator-Destructor Records head honcho) fit right in.  It may be a recency bias, but in the numerous times I’ve seen them, this may have been the best yet.

Tigers Jaw closed things out and, I’ve said it before, but they just keep getting better.  With some lineup stability and clear direction, they’ve really been playing to their strengths on these last few albums and it shows in the live show, too.  Some old favorite were in there but the new material off of ‘I Won’t Care How You Remember Me’ and their ‘Old Clothes’ EP was super strong.  They’re longtime friends of Decent Exposure Radio/NeoStar and it’s nice to see good people thriving on their own terms.

Early in the day, I was able to speak to Nuno Pereira, singer of A Wilhelm Scream.  I’ve basically interviewed everyone else in the band over the years (except Trevor but THAT is for the next album cycle!) and it was cool to get to know him a bit and catch up with band happenings.  ‘Use Your Delusion’ was a highlight of 2022 and it’s a logical next step in their evolution/growth.  We talked about the album, the artwork, changes in the band, life and a peek at what’s next.  Solid dude from a crew of solid dudes.

I’ve been to a few of these anniversary shows now and all I can say is that they’re always a blast.  This may have been my favorite one yet and of course, I’m ready for next year to come, already.
